Lucien Pissarro was born in Paris and was taught painting by his father Camille Pissarro, a French impressionist artist. Like his father, Pissarro became a landscape painter adopting the impressionist principle of painting outdoors. He was also a printmaker and his love of William Morris’ designs made him settle in the UK in 1890, becoming an English citizen in 1916. Pissarro became an influential link between British and French artists including his father and friends like Seurat, Signac, and van Gogh. Pissarro liked painting the landscapes of southern England outdoors so he could capture changing light and weather effects.
