For the first time in Tullie history, we have taken the catering operation in house. This means we can offer you the same warm, friendly service throughout your museum experience. It also means more of the money you spend in the café can go towards making Tullie more financially sustainable and help us care for the collections and buildings on behalf of the people of Carlisle.

About Café Tullie

Before becoming the museum café, the room was once part of Carlisle’s library. We were thrilled to discover the room’s original parquet flooring beneath a more recent layer of carpet. We were even more thrilled to be able to restore and reinstate this original flooring with the help of local company and supporters of Tullie, Border Floors.

A nod to the room’s history is a small community library nestled behind the banquette seating. Have a browse while you wait for a friend and take some new reading material home with you. We only ask that you leave a book in its place (or promise to next time you visit!).

To make Café Tullie a true extension of the museum, five artworks from the Fine Art collection are hung in the space.

If you’re bringing little ones, we have activity sheets and books for children to keep them occupied. The menu also has plenty for children, with even more in school holidays.

You can’t see it, but Café Tullie’s welcoming atmosphere is also buzzing with free Wi-Fi. Need an office for the day? Grab a coffee, get online and get to it.

Want to hire the space?

You’re in luck. When not used as a café the space becomes the elegant Old Library, a perfect setting for weddings, parties and business gatherings when you need to impress. To enquire about booking the space please email bookings@tulliehouse.org or call 01228 618701.

Designed in collaboration with Creative Core. The refurbishment of the café has been supported by the UK Government through the UK Shared Prosperity Fund.
