Event Details

Join Nick Rogers, curator of the forthcoming exhibition Picturing Place, for an exploration of the work of three of Carlisle’s most celebrated artists: Thomas Bushby, Sam Bough and William Blacklock. This talk will give a fascinating insight into the lives, careers and landscapes of these brilliant painters who separately captured the beauty, energy, spirit and atmosphere of Carlisle, its neighbouring countryside, and the Lake District over a period of nearly 100 years. As well as their better-known paintings, the talk will also highlight these artists’ incredible draughtsmanship through little-seen sketches and preparatory drawings that rarely see the light of day.

This event is free to attend, part of 2026’s Art History Festival
