Hues of the Sun Life Drawing Series

As part of the Colour exhibition programme, we invited Carlidoscope to facilitate their first ever life drawing series – ‘Hues of the Sun’. We hosted three laid-back salon-style clothed and accessorised life drawing workshops designed by Carlidoscope with the aim to project Black and Brown Joy.

All artists and models were from the Global Majority, and each person curated their own looks, styles and poses for attendees to creatively capture under the guidance of an experienced artist.

The sessions were led by Dani Münzel – artist, life-model, activist, anti-racist educator and creator of ‘exotic’ – a zine that educates people on how to avoid exoticizing models and awareness of micro-aggressions.

Dani started each session by introducing Carlidoscope – explaining the importance of using models of all skin colours and body-types.

She then introduced experimental drawing exercises before relaxing into a paced and structured session of short and longer poses.

All workshops sold-out and Carlidoscope are keen to return with another series in 2026. Carlidoscope is a community of artists and creatives of the Global Majority, who live, work or play in Carlisle and surrounding areas.
