As the museum gears up to fully reopen after major redevelopment work, we need more volunteers to help visitors get the most out of our new and old spaces alike..

As a Volunteer Gallery Engager, you’ll warmly welcome visitors and help bring the museum to life. You’ll also and be part of keeping the museum and collections safe and secure.

As a charity, Tullie continues to be a popular, ambitious and successful museum, with a forward-thinking manifesto and internationally important collections.  The museum has been an independent charitable Trust since 2011, it leads the Cumbria Museum Consortium (an Arts Council England funded National Portfolio Organisation) and has a range of impressive partners including the British Museum and the Universities of Cumbria and Lancaster.

Tullie cares for a collection of almost 1,000,000 objects, from internationally significant finds from Hadrian’s Wall to a major collection of Pre-Raphaelite artwork. The collections tell the unique story of Carlisle as a Border City, from Reivers to Railways and beyond. The natural science collection has been Designated by Arts Council England, which makes it of national significance – it represents the amazing flora and fauna of Cumbria, one of the most biodiverse counties in England.
