Lechuguilla is a Spanish word meaning sea lettuce or neck ruff. Metsers’ starting point is to remodel broken children’s toys which she paints white and refashions into strange landscapes. She then photographs the results and works from these to create the painting. This process offers Metsers a return to childhood through acts of destruction.
