Thriving Communities Carlisle

Thriving Communities Carlisle is a local partnership that uses community social, arts, culture and nature-based activities to support our communities health and wellbeing. Tullie leads the partnership which includes Carlisle City Council, Cumbria Wildlife Trust, Carlisle Healthcare, North Cumbria Integrated Care Community, Susie Tate Projects and Active Cumbria.

In 2021/22 we delivered a pilot project funded by Arts Council England, the National Academy for Social Prescribing and the Cumbria Community Foundation. We delivered over 7,000 engagements as part of this project and you can read more about it on the Thriving Communities Carlisle website the website also includes hints and tips for developing further social prescribing community provision activity based on our experiences. The website also includes a link to the full Evaluation Report for the project.

Thanks to funding from the former Carlisle City Council, Tullie was able to deliver Phase 2 of Thriving Communities – a major city-wide partnership aimed at embedding social prescribing opportunities in Carlisle. This second phase was designed to build greater partnership and collaboration with community centres through the development of sustainable, long-term, audience-centred health and wellbeing opportunities.

Thriving Communities worked with six Carlisle community centres, delivering 40 sessions to over 291 attendees. As Thriving Communities came to an end, the programme coordinator worked to ensure the centres were able to continue these sessions or develop them into new programmes.
