King Arthur Lives in Merrie Carlisle with Steve Matthews

In the early French and English poems about King Arthur and his knights, Carlisle Castle is identified as his court more than anywhere else. It is in Carlisle, according to Thomas Malory, where Lancelot kills the knights accusing him and Guinevere of adultery, and where he rescues her from the stake and where they eventually make peace with Arthur. This talk looks at the wealth of literature that locates the court of King Arthur in Merrie Carlisle.
