Are you a metal detectorist? Do you have any finds that you want to know more about? Come and meet the Finds Liaison Officer to record your finds with the national database and receive expert information about its material, date and significance. Please note, the Finds Liaison Officer will only assess archaeological material.
Finds Days are completely free to attend, but booking is essential.
Upcoming Finds ID Days, all 1.10pm – 3.40pm.
- Saturday 18 July
***IMPORTANT NOTICE***
As part of the changeover to a new recording system in summer 2026, we are reducing our finds recording in May, June and July. This means that at our July event we can:
- Take in Treasure items
- Return objects we have borrowed
- Provide information on the new database and recording system
- Give identifications for anything we recognise on the spot
However, we will not be taking in non-Treasure finds or answering queries that would need research, unless they relate to a Treasure case.
We intend to begin taking non-Treasure finds in again at the next cycle of Finds Days, in late summer and early autumn. Please check our Eventbrite page nearer the time for details of these events. The finds we are taking in will change slightly, so please contact us ahead of time if you are unsure.
In collaboration with the Portable Antiquities Scheme.
