We’re excited to be taking part in Heritage Open Days this year with some free activities.
Tour Old Tullie House with Mr & Mrs Dixon, and find out what it was like to live here in the 1850s; meet a Roman Soldier or join in with our activities for children.
The history of Carlisle is a long and sometimes turbulent one, especially as an outpost of the Roman Empire. Meet a Roman Soldier and find out what life was like in Carlisle when there was a Roman Fort where the museum now stands. The soldier will be patrolling the Garden and Atrium between 10am-4pm.
Mr George Dixon was twice Mayor of Carlisle holding this office in 1842 and again in 1848. He and his wife were the last occupants of Tullie House. Come and tour the house with them and find out what it was like to live there before Tullie House became a museum in 1893. Old Tullie House is now an Art Gallery, and includes a portrait of Mr & Mrs Dixon. Can you spot it? Join Mrs Dixon for tours at 10.30am, 11.30am, 1.30pm and 3pm.
There will also be a Roman pot clay craft for children. Drop in 1-4pm.
