An art studio drop-in session for 12–17-year-olds to take some time out, have a go and experiment with new creative techniques using different forms of inspiration.  

All studio sessions will be inspired by the museum’s exhibitions, collections, plus popular themes and topics.  

Support will be given by the friendly youth-work trained Tullie team, and we welcome carers and support workers. Young people who are able to attend independently can come without an adult, alone or with friends.

Sessions are for all levels and abilities. Activities will take a minimum of 30 minutes or a maximum of 2 hours depending on how long people want to stay. 

Admission to the museum is free for everyone under 18, so why not visit the museum before or after spending time in the drop-in.

Here’s what you can come and create …  

25 July

This month we’ll be in the Tullie Gardens for a relaxed, outdoor drop-in, and we’ll be doing:

• Hand-Sewn Lavender Sachets – sew small fabric sachets by hand and fill them with dried lavender and other dried petals and herbs.
• Cyanotype Garden Prints – use leaves, flowers, feathers, and interesting garden finds to create beautiful blue-and-white cyanotype prints.
• Garden Treasure Hunt – find the hidden trinkets around the Tullie gardens for a prize!
• Sketching on Galleries – visit the Tick Tock Marvels exhibition and sketch the detail in the automata sculptures. Sketching prompts provided.

29 August

• Automata Making – make your own 3D moving artwork inspired by the fantastic Gormenghast Castle automata.
• Pin Badge Making – use our badge machine to make a collection of badges to express your identity or interests.
• Biscuit Art – decorate, then devour a variety of popular (slightly damaged) biscuits from the local factory.
• Sketching on Galleries – visit the Tick Tock Marvels exhibition and sketch the detail in the automata sculptures. Sketching prompts provided.
